Paul began photographing in the 1960’s while working as a physician in
New York City. A friend brought a Pentax Spotmatic back from Korea, and
Paul began to shoot in black and white. One of his photos, “After the
Hurricane,” won a contest at Mt. Sinai Hospital and was displayed there.
A photograph of his son’s birth (“Michael”) won a national contest and
was published in the magazine Hospital Physician. Other contest winners
appeared in Internal Medicine News and the New England Journal of
Medicine.
